Custom Automated Reel for the Tissue/Paper Industry

At Associated Machine Design, Inc., our reputation for engineering high integrity machinery for the paper industry brought us the contract to provide a turnkey reel system for a tissue paper manufacturer. Our experienced and talented engineers worked in close collaboration with the customer to design a system with advanced control features that fully integrated with their existing plant-wide systems.

Built from the ground up in our Wisconsin facility, the automated paper reel highlighted here was designed with the flexibility to manage paper with basis weight of 9.5 to 12 lbs. It operates at speeds of up to 4,000 ft/min, with a 140" wide web, and maintains uniform winding pressure for creating rolls up to 96" in diameter. Pressure controlled primary and secondary arms ensure safe and gentle handling of the fragile product. Sophisticated in its simplicity, we engineered it with minimal wiring and piping to facilitate operation and maintenance, while incorporating a comprehensive set of safety features.

At the heart of the system is an operator friendly, "recipe" based control system that allows remote monitoring, production data tracking, as well as online troubleshooting. Constructed for long term reliability, our client was exceptionally satisfied with our design and workmanship.
